It may be costly, but apparently there are only a few businesses up to the job.
Council has awarded a contract after calling a tender for single surface treatment maintenance of asphalt for various roads.
The tender was to provide a single surface treatment of Class One 1 chip with emulsion for about 15.5km of road.
The contractor is also to supply aggregate, emulsion, labour and proper traffic control and signs.
Tenders closed July 2. The recommended bid was by MSO Construction Limited for $12,500 per kilometre (including taxes).
Mayor David Anderson said the amount is the lowest bid, but he winced, adding it was also the only bid.
