GUELPH/ERAMOSA – Guelph Tree Trust is inviting the public to witness the work that goes into preserving mature trees during a tree planting event at the Ignatius Jesuit Centre.
On Oct. 26, beginning at 9:30am, people can see arborists swinging in the branches of a mature sugar maple tree – one of two maples receiving conservation care at the Jesuit Centre.
The arborists, led by Doug Steel of Full Circle Tree Care, will do specialized pruning that will prolong the life of the tree.
People will get to hear an explanation of the work, then two understudy sapling trees will be planted.
There will also be a chance to go on a “tree walk,” and witness a demonstration of “how to prepare a young tree for a healthy future,” a news release said.
Guelph Tree Trust is one of eight volunteer-led Tree Trust chapters in Ontario.
Tree trust is a charitable organization that is a program of the Elora Environment Centre.
It is the only organization dedicated to protecting and caring for elder trees, which provide invaluable ecological, social and cultural benefits, the release stated.
