WELLINGTON COUNTY – It’s Ontario Public Library Week, and to celebrate the Wellington County Library is giving people the chance to win a free book.
From Oct. 20 to Oct. 26, people can drop in to any county library branch for a contest ballot.
“It’s our way of saying thanks for visiting,” states the library’s website.
October is also Canadian Library Month, a time when libraries and their partners work to raise awareness about the essential services they provide.
“Libraries are community hubs where visitors receive service, support, education and entertainment,” Wellington County chief librarian Rebecca Hine stated in a news release.
“We invite everyone in Wellington County – whether lifelong library user or first-time visitor – to celebrate the vital role libraries play in fostering learning, creativity and community engagement during this special week.”
This week, library patrons can replace lost or damaged cards free of charge. Normally there is a $2 fee.
The county has 14 library branches, including five Carnegie buildings known for their distinctive architecture. They offer a range of resources and services, from books and digital media to community programs and workshops.
Each year, local library branches circulate nearly one million items and receive more than half a million visitors.
