STORTZ, Reverend Aloysius George

Of Arthur passed away on October 18, 2024, at St. Joseph Hospital in Hamilton, ON, in his 95th year. Beloved son of the late James and Margaret (nee Kain) Stortz. Predeceased by his siblings Frank (Bridget) Stortz, Ambrose (Sheila) Stortz, Helen (Ivor) Walsh, John (Mary) Stortz, Genevieve (Jack) Robertson, and Adele (Wilfred) Raftis. Fondly remembered by his many nieces, nephews, friends, and parishioners. Prior to entering the seminary, father worked for Drury’s Construction. On June 2, 1962, George was ordained at the Cathedral of Christ the King. He had many  placements. From June 11, 1962 – June 25, 1972, Father was at Chancery Office, in Hamilton. He was Executive Assistant to Bishop, along with being Associate Pastor, from June 11, 1962 – June 23, 1967, at Cathedral of Christ the King, in Hamilton. From June 23, 1967 – June 25, 1972, he was Associate Pastor at Canadian Martyrs Parish, in Hamilton. From June 25, 1972 – August 25, 1974, he was Associate Pastor at St. Patrick Parish, in Hamilton. And from August 25, 1974 – June 13, 1985, Father was Pastor at Incarnation of Our Blessed Lord Parish, in Hamilton. From June 13, 1985 – June 25, 2002, he was Pastor at St. John Parish, in Kitchener. During this time, Father was the Catholic Representative on the United Way Board of Directors, in 1980. Father retired in June of 2002. Fr. George’s hobbies included playing golf and scrimmage hockey well into his seventies. He also had a great fondness for all machinery. He had a life well lived and will be missed. Fr. George’s family will receive relatives and friends from 5:00-7:00pm, on Thursday, October 24, 2024, at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener, 519-749-8467. Evening prayers to begin at 6:30pm. Funeral Mass will be held at Cathedral Basilica of Christ the King, 714 King St W, Hamilton, on October 25, 2024, at 11:00am. Interment will follow at Holy Sepulchre Catholic Cemetery, Burlington. A reception will be held immediately following, in the Cathedral Reception Hall.
