Minto permits up, but value down

With warmer weather on the horizon, it seems building permits in Minto are growing.

The June 2009 building permit report notes a higher number of permits for June 2009 (25 permits) over last year for the same month (20).

However, the year-to-date numbers remain lower than 2008.

Mayor David Anderson was encouraged.

At a previous meeting, he noted with the recession, most municipalities were saying building permits were down 10 to 20%, but “our June numbers have come in even a little higher than last year.”

Deputy Mayor Judy Dirksen said “what is significant is the value of the projects is considerably less.”

Projects at this time last year were valued at $8,546,000, while this year the value is only $4,588,000.
