GUELPH – An exciting new grant opportunity has been launched for Canadian charities.
Funded by Sleeman Breweries and distributed by the Guelph Community Foundation, the Sleeman Better Water Fund offers up to $40,000 in funding to support clean water initiatives.
It’s a national annual grant to support Canadian water conservation and clean water accessibility.
This new Canada-wide fund accepted applications from Sept. 9 to Oct. 4.
During this period, over 20 Canadian charities applied for funding.
The most resounding comment from applicants is how grateful they are for this opportunity as there is very limited funding available that focuses specifically on water.
The successful applicant(s) and their award amount(s) will be announced on World Water Day, March 22, 2025.
The Sleeman Better Water Fund supports non-profit organizations across the country that are focused on responsible water use (conservation and preservation) or accessibility of clean water in communities.
Funding will be provided for charities that promote positive change in our communities in the fields of water conservation and clean water access, and that connect to at least one of these three United Nations sustainable development goals:
- clean water and sanitation;
- climate action; and
- Life on Land (which has a specific focus on groundwater).
The inaugural recipient of the Sleeman Better Water Fund in March of 2024 was Living Lakes Canada, an organization that collaborates with Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities, partners and individuals to protect Canada’s freshwater resources.
The next round of applications for the fund opens in fall 2025.
