It is with great sorrow and a heavy heart to announce the passing of Eric Breugst on Monday, August 12 at the age of 59 while vacationing with a friend in the town of Marlow, county of Buckinghamshire, United Kingdom. Eric was born in Fergus, Ontario and was predeceased by parents Barbel (Barb) Breugst (nee Seitz – May 8, 2014) and Georg (George) Breugst (October 8, 2015). He is survived by his older brother, Olaf (and Ann Calder). Eric graduated from the University of Waterloo with his BA (Hons.) and MA while also earning a BEd in Scotland. He continued his career with the U of W Faculty of Arts as an Undergraduate Academic Advisor and stuck it out during the pandemic to make it to full retirement. Eric was a sports enthusiast, cottager, student of history and world traveler who always managed to combine them all into one experience. His travels to China, Japan, USA and England as well as enjoying the company of good friends cottaging in the Muskokas were all testament to this. Kind, generous, thoughtful, intelligent and funny are all words that have been used to describe Eric by those who have reached out to me at this time. Immediate arrangements have been made with a local funeral home in the UK to attend to his cremation and the return of his ashes to Canada. Eric’s family will receive relatives and friends from 2:00-5:00pm on Saturday, November 9th, 2024 at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener, 519-749-8467. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Eric Breugst International Exchange Award.
