FERGUS – The Wellington County Museum and Archives has prepared a ghoulish lineup of Halloween events ahead of the holiday.
Oct. 18, 19, 25 and 26, the museum invites guests ages 15 and older to join them on a tour of the Poor House Cemetery and grounds. The tour will feature the more macabre stories from people who have lived and worked in the County Poor House and will divulge the secrets of figures like Dr. Abraham Groves and Jane Lewis, officials say.
Oct. 24 and 25, the museum invites guests to try their hand at uncovering secrets and solving a murder mystery. Guests are invited to the House of Industry and Refuge Town Hall where Refreshment and snacks will be provided as Inspector Beattie and Keeper Adam Parker lead an important discussion and update guests on any grievances and changes to the Poor House.
Museum officials say it’s sure to be a perfect and informative evening – perfect for a murder. Armed with forensic evidence and plenty of suspects, guests will need to help solve the murder mystery at the Poor House before the party is over.
As a farewell to the Halloween season, the museum will also be hosting a pumpkin walk Nov. 1. Guests are invited to Drop off their carved pumpkin(s) at the Museum between 9:30am and 4:30pm. At dusk, the museum will light each carved pumpkin for the last time. This is a free event and is open to all members of the community.
