KING, Rachel

Formerly of Scarborough and then Elora, passed away peacefully at Riverside Glen, Guelph Ontario after celebrating her 90th birthday this past summer. Rachel is survived by her son Malcolm and Janice King, Elora. Her daughter Annalise King and Rick Look, Medicine Hat. Her step son Chris King and Jean Morris, Hawaii. Also survived by grandchildren Benjamin and Katrien (Newfoundland), Samuel and Jaime (Napanee), Sarah, Dustin, Dylan, Gabrielle, Allyson, Jennifer, Julia, David and their partners. Rachel leaves behind numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Also to be missed by Linda King and Archie Clampitt. Predeceased by husband Geoffrey King. Rachel was born in Ashburton Devon England to Reginald and Violet Andrews on June 23rd, 1934. The youngest of three children. Peter Andrews, elder brother and Ruth Bazalgette, elder sister. Prior to moving to Canada she worked in the hotel business in England and Switzerland. She moved to Canada in 1956 and met and married Geoff in Toronto. Rachel began King Planning and was a successful meeting planner for 7 years. Rachel and Geoff enjoyed entertaining people from all over the world in their home. She donated her time to organizations close to her heart, Inner Wheel of Rotary, Canadian Opera Women’s Committee, A.C.W Jubilate Group and St. George Society. Rachel enjoyed travelling, theatre and a fine glass of single malt. Rachel’s devotion to letter writing was unprecedented. Her correspondence encouraged friendships that spanned countless years to people worldwide. Memorial service will be held at St. John’s Anglican Church located at 36 Henderson Street Elora on Saturday October 26th, 2024 at 11:30am. A luncheon will follow at the Graham A. Giddy Funeral Home, 280 St. David Street South, Fergus. Memorial donations may be made to Groves Memorial Hospital CT Scan Fund and St. John’s Anglican Church for the Open Doors campaign. Our family wishes to extend our gratitude to the wonderful care she received in the Erin neighbourhood at Riverside Glen from all the staff who made Rachel’s last days comfortable and pleasant.
