Obituary

Gloria, (nee Hooper) surrounded by her family left her earthly home on Wednesday September 25 from Nithview Long Term Care, greeted in heaven by her children Dennis (1996) and Denise (2019) and granddaughter Cassandra (2008), her sister Sandy Walkerley, brother David and her parents Helen and John. She leaves on earth her husband James “Jim” due to celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary Oct 3rd. Her son Leslie (Margaret) and her grandchildren; Brenden Sherratt (Laura), Cora Sherratt (Amy), Aaron Sherratt (Amy), Mitchell Sherratt-Greene (RikkiRene), Nicole Schultze (Michael), Amanda Eve (Ryan) and Jordan Nagle. Great Grandchildren, Orion, Aurora, Laine, Lexi, Liam, Brantley, Parker, and Hayven. Gloria fought hard in her final years to remain beside Jim, both battling dementia. Her determination through significant physical and mental health struggles never left her. Life threw her challenges and deep grief, but she battled forward with the security in her heart that she would be reunited with her loved ones again one day. Today we rejoice that her wish was granted. We will miss her love of cooking for large gatherings, her bins of shortbread cookies, love of sewing, crocheting and reading. She embraced her Nova Scotia heritage, her Hillsburgh “farm” and their Pike Lake home. She was a member of 1st Baptist. Special thank you to Nithview Staff for becoming their rock in these final years. Cremation has taken place. A funeral celebrating her life will take place on Friday, October 11, 2024, at 11:00am at the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, 291 Huron Street, New Hamburg. Reception to follow. Inurnment will take place at Huxley Cemetery. If you are unable to attend to attend the funeral service in person a livestream link will be available.
