People from all over the county will be attending services to honour those who served their country in time of war, in peacekeeping, or who are serving around the world today.
Many of the services will begin with a parade, so people wanting to attend those should consider that when planning. Many of those parades start about 30 minutes before the actual service begins.
There will be a special services in Rockwood this year. Mayor Chris White noted the regular service is Nov. 8 at 11am, with the Guelph Legion.
But this year, there will also be a special service for Rockwood elementary school children at 11am on Nov. 11.
White said the township has made arrangements for the grade 7 and 8 students to walk down to the cenotaph for a special ceremony. In Flanders Fields will be read and he said students will each carry a card with the name of one of the township’s fallen who are honoured on the cenotaph.
He said carrying those tags will help students understand the sacrifices that were made.
“If you are a student with one of those tags, you’ll always remember that name,” he said.
Services will be taking place across Wellington County:
