FERGUS – The Groves Hospital Foundation offered bricks from the former hospital for sale on Sept. 28 and a surprising number of people came out to purchase one.
Here Linda Benallick takes a look at the pile before making her selection. Benallick said she and her brother were born at old Groves and both had their tonsils removed there also. She also put in many hours as a volunteer at the old hospital.
Olive Sobol and Anna Murphy Phillips were both born at the old Groves hospital and their mother let them pick a brick – one last memory of the old hospital. With the former hospital now demolished, the hospital board is contemplating next steps for the site.
Groves Memorial Hospital Foundation executive director Lori Arsenault accepts donations from community members. Bricks were available for a donation of $20 or more, with all donations going towards funding new equipment for the new hospital.
