HARRISTON – Minto’s diversity, equity and inclusion committee held an Indigenous celebration at the Harriston and Minto Community Centre on Sept. 25.
Chippewa knowledge carrier, flautist and storyteller Christin Dennis shared stories and music of his culture as well as a traditional treat, Sweetgrass ice cream, provided by Naagan by Zach Keeshig.
Dennis showed guests sacred items, his own artwork and Native American courting flute, an instrument he makes himself.
He spoke about the meaning of Truth and Reconciliation, residential schools, the Indigenous medicine wheel and other stories about his heritage.
