Minto is supporting the 2 Minute Wave of Silence as part of Remembrance Day to demonstrate feelings about peace and local veterans.
The letter requesting support was received from Royal Canadian Legion Branch 296 Harriston poppy chairman Bob Pritchard and office administrator Stephanie McInnis.
The letter once again asked council’s support.
“The Royal Canadian Legion will again be asking Canadians to make a special effort to take part of their day to go to their local [Remembrance Day] ceremonies. As the number of survivors, veterans and the size of our military gradually falls, it is up to all of us to make sure that their sacrifices are not forgotten…
“The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 296 in Harriston, would like you to declare Oct. 31, 2008 to Nov. 11, 2008 as Remembrance Week.
“We would also request permission to hold a poppy canvas of Harriston and Clifford on Monday, Nov. 3.”
Council passed the request with little discussion.
