Even though her job is over at the end of December, Wellington North’s Economic Development Officer Linda Reader said she is proud of what she has helped to accomplish over the past three years.
In an email directed to the Wellington Advertiser, Wellington North EDO Reader stated “I realize that reporter Mike Robinson has written about the EDO contract already but I was not able to stay at the [Wellington North] council meeting … when the decision to not renew my contract was discussed.
“I have had a wonderful opportunity at Wellington North to explore at the grass roots level the meaning of rural economic development and look forward to taking what I have learned to a new level. I am confident that council in time will determine their new directions too.”
Her statement reads as follows:
“Both the council and I are very proud of the work we have accomplished together for Wellington North in the past three years during my time as EDO. The economic development committee has heard many times how pleased the mayor is about our new wind turbine policy for example.
“I am leaving three solid committees, six national, and two provincial tourism awards for the township, the wind turbine policy, the sale of over a million and a half dollars of industrial land, the promise of three hundred new homes in Mount Forest, new and expanded industrial businesses and an economic development vision for the future. And Wellington North has been recognized across the country for its tourism projects, the Butter Tart Trail™ and Bobolinks to Snipes birding map.
“Council has decided however to not extend the present economic development officer contract past December.
“In the meantime, I am considering other opportunities for myself in the New Year as I finish up projects at the township.
“While I look forward to new challenges it has been an extraordinary experience to work with the fine people, council and exceptional staff of Wellington North.”
