KNOWLES, Dr. Carolyn Judith (“Judy”)

Dr. Carolyn Judith “Judy” Knowles passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, just weeks before her 80th birthday. Born in Blackpool, England, on September 29, 1944, Judy is lovingly remembered by her devoted husband of nearly 55 years, Graham. Judy met Graham while they were both studying at Liverpool University. After completing their studies, they worked in the UK, followed by some time in the Netherlands before the couple eventually made the decision to move to Canada. They briefly lived in Vancouver before making Fergus their home in 1974. Judy, an only child, was predeceased by her parents, George and Margaret Thrall, and her sister-in-law and dear friend, Lesley Knowles. Judy, affectionately known as “Aunty Judy” by her UK family, will be deeply missed by her brother-in-law, Ian Knowles, and his family; Jacqui, Rachel (Paco), and Richard (Sally). Fondly remembered by her cousin Shirley Bibby and her family; Richard (and family), Sarah (Tom), Joanna (Richard and family) and Peter (Jayne and family), along with Nigel and Fiona (Mickey and family), the children of her late cousin John (Barry) Caley. Judy’s memory is cherished by her long-time friend Hazel Leighton (predeceased by husband Gordon) and their children Richard and Claire. Close friends Peggy Dickie, Renee Louter, Cheryl and Bill Rowe and their family; Heather, Becky, and Suzie, will all miss her dearly. Judy was a treasured friend and neighbour to many, including her caregivers at Peace of Mind and Corey. Shy at times, Judy was a bright, kind, and compassionate lady, known for her warm sense of humour and genuine interest in everyone she met. Judy and Graham had a lifelong love of gardening, and they both shared a deep commitment for environmental conservation. A strong appreciation for music, symphonies, and the arts, which was a passion that Judy shared with her mother. A dedicated and compassionate dentist, Judy practiced in the UK, the Netherlands, British Columbia, and Ontario- re-qualifying several times to meet each jurisdiction’s regulatory and professional standards. Known locally as Dr. Judy Knowles, her commitment to her patients was unwavering, often responding to emergencies at Christmas and New Year. Judy was an innovative leader in her field, prioritizing the safety of her staff and offering a warm welcome to new dentists in the community. Judy’s kindness and dedication made her beloved by her patients and colleagues alike. Special thanks to the professional and understanding care provided by Peace of Mind Caregivers, the staff, doctors and nurses at Groves Memorial Hospital, and Dr. Westendorp, trusted advisors Will (Mactaggart), Nicola (Melchers), Peter and devoted friend Cheryl. Cremation has taken place, and arrangements are entrusted to The Graham Giddy Funeral Home, 280 St. David Street South, Fergus. Visitation will be held on Thursday October 10th from 11am-1pm, followed by a service in the chapel and refreshments. Interment at Belsyde Cemetery will be private, by invitation only. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Groves Memorial Hospital, directed to the CT Scanner. Donations can be directed towards the Groves Memorial Hospital CT scanner.
