Ontario’s fallen firefighters were honoured recently for their bravery, heroism and sacrifice by Premier Dalton McGuinty and Minister of Community Safety and Correctional Services Rick Bartolucci at special ceremonies at Queen’s Park.
Nineteen families were presented with Tribute to the Fallen plaques at the Ontario legislature. Created in 2006, the plaques honour firefighters, police officers, and members of the Canadian Armed Forces who have died in the line of duty since 2002.
After the plaque presentation, ceremonies continued at the Fire Fighter Memorial near the legislature, where families, firefighters and friends gathered to remember these heroes.
To date, 100 soldiers, firefighters and police officers have been honoured with the Tribute to the Fallen.
