Illusionist is supporting two groups: Community Living, Guelph food bank

Illusionist Claude Haggerty will perform at the Fox auditorium here on Oct. 16 .

Haggerty is a veteran who has performed on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno and  at the Air Canada Centre.

The charity show Claude Haggerty and his Grand Scale Illusion is sponsored by local businesses: Investors Group; Guelph Hyundai; Paul Fitzpatrick; Licks; RLB LLP; and Summit Tutoring. More than eight tonnes of illusion equipment will be set up on stage at John F. Ross Collegiate for the 7pm family oriented show.

Haggerty started learning the art of illusion early in life. One day in grade 7 he discovered a book on magic and illusion in the school library. After perfecting two simple card tricks, he realized his life would never be the same. The following year, he discovered another book in the library that explained “how to make your dreams come true.”

Having lived in foster care for a number of years, “having dreams come true was something I was not accustomed to,”  he said. He took that book to heart, making a list of goals and dreams he taped in his school locker, and reading that list every day.

Since that beginning, he has performed in front of millions of people.

He has also helped raise over $4-million for charity and visited more than 7,000 elementary schools and 1,300 high schools to promote the importance of setting goals and following dreams.

In advance of his Oct. 16 performance to benefit  Community Living Guelph Wellington and the Guelph Foodbank , Haggerty, is taking his show and his message to local elementary schools. During those free mini shows, he will inspire students to follow their dreams. Proceeds from the show will be directed to the ARC Industries Capital Campaign.

Tickets are available at the door at $15 per person or $12 plus a non-perishable food item.
