Livestock claim value unchanged

It looks like councillors here are sticking to their guns about a recent appeal for a livestock claim.

Last month Trish McCabe, of Mount Forest, disputed the $500 value presented by the township’s livestock valuer, Gord Flewelling.

At the time, council agreed to look into the matter and on Oct. 6, presented a report by Flewelling about how that value was determined.

A miniature horse foal was killed as a result of a coyote attack. The report stated the foal was attacked and partially eaten by a coyote.

McCabe argued the value was closer to $1,000.

Although council agreed to look into the matter, it made no guarantee the amount would change. At the previous meeting, councillor Dan Yake said it would be challenging for members of council to make a decision without the valuator’s report.

“None of us are experts in this field,” he said.

Acting-clerk Cathy Conrad said Flewelling stood by the price he determined.

“Then we support him,” said councillor Ross Chaulk.

Council subsequently approved the claim at $500.
