The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure is the largest, single day, volunteer-run national fundraising event in support of the breast cancer cause in Canada.
Each year, more than 100 residents of in Guelph take an active role in the planning, organizing, promoting, and fundraising for the run as volunteers, to ensure a successful event for more than 2,000 participants and supporters.
Guelph will celebrate its fifth year of participating in the national event starting at St. George’s Square in downtown Guelph on Oct. 5 at 9:30am.
“We’re thrilled with the response of volunteers and participants every year here in Guelph,” said Rhonda McMahon, local volunteer run director. “What an amazing demonstration of a community coming together to support a wonderful cause. Each year the number of volunteers needed increases and each year Guelph and Wellington area residents are there lending their talents and time – Guelph really does care.”
The city was named the volunteer capital of Canada by Macleans magazine this year in its annual surveys of Canadian activities.
In the past four years Guelph has raised almost $1-million for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. All proceeds from the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure go directly to the organization dedicated to creating a future without breast cancer.
