The volunteer fire department here recently celebrated its first 40 years with a party that included former volunteers.
The Puslinch Fire Department started its training in September of 1968 and took over responding to calls on Jan. 1, 1969.
Speeches were made by Fire Chief Dan Quinnell, Mayor Brad Whitcombe, MP Michael Chong, and MPP Ted Arnott.
Among those in attendance were active and retired firefighters. As well, wives of firefighters from those early days.
They helped operate the phone dispatch system that was in place in the early days of the department’s operation. They did that work until the township changed to pagers in 1977.
