Police beat: drug bust

EAST GARAFRAXA – Two individuals are facing charges following a drug bust here last week.

Wellington County OPP officials say officers executed a search warrant at a residence on 13th Line of East Garafraxa on Aug. 20 at 2:19pm.

“During the search officers discovered and seized a quantity of suspected cocaine and psilocybin (mushrooms) along with drug paraphernalia,” police stated in an Aug. 21 press release.

“The combined estimated value of the seized controlled substances is approximately $5,000.”

Connor Scratcher, 28, of East Garafraxa, was charged with possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking (cocaine), possession of a Schedule III substance for the purpose of trafficking and trafficking a Schedule I substance (cocaine).

He was held pending a bail hearing.

Samantha Kennedy, 29, of East Garafraxa, was charged with possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking (cocaine), possession of a Schedule III substance for the purpose of trafficking and unauthorized possession of a weapon.

She is to attend Guelph court on Sept. 24.

Partner violence

WELLINGTON COUNTY –  Local police continue to respond to intimate partner violence calls across the county.

Recent incidents include:

  Aug. 18 in Arthur, which resulted in assault and mischief charges for a 40-year-old man from Wellington North;

– Aug. 19 in Fergus, 46-year-old woman from Fergus charged with assault; and

– Aug. 20 in Centre Wellington, 52-year-old Centre Wellington man charged with assault causing bodily harm (choke, suffocate or strangle) and mischief.
