PALMERSTON – All Aboard Palmerston is bringing a new twist to its annual September Tiny Trains event.
First, Tiny Trains travelled the town, then the world, and now they Chug Through Time.
The committee encourages you to bring your family for a morning of learning, activities and special treats on Sept. 28.
“This year, kids will be given the chance to travel through Palmerston’s history, learning all about the railway, hearing stories from the past, and playing time period related games together,” stated event organizer Brittany Heikamp in a press release.
Families will be required to register in advance for time slots occurring each half hour between 9am and 12pm at the Palmerston Lions Park Pavilion.
Families will “leave the station” in groups, making stops at various points through the Palmerston Lions Park.
The event will conclude at the Palmerston Railway Heritage Museum, where kids will receive a prize.
The end of this event coincides with the Minto Farmers’ Market final market and Fall Fun Day so families are encouraged to stay for live music, additional activities, and to shop local vendors.
New this year, the committee will be running a “Build your own Train” workshop on Aug. 25 from 12:30 to 1:45pm in conjunction with the Palmerston Fair, for those interested in creating a cardboard train to wear at the event. Participants must bring their own cardboard box.
Cardboard trains are not required for participation in the Sept. 28 event but are welcome.
Those interested are encouraged to register for free at allaboardpalmerston.ca. The deadline to register for the August event is Aug. 21 and for the September event it’s Sept. 20. Limited space is available so those interested should register early.
