Wellington Halton Hills MP Michael Chong recently announced the federal Canada will spend $4.3-million for five Canada research chairs at the University of Guelph.
“The Canada research chairs program is helping our universities develop, attract and retain talented people, strengthening our capacity for leading-edge research, while creating jobs and economic opportunities for Canadians now and in the future,” he said.
The five chairs are:
– René Kirkegaard, Social Sciences and Humanities, chair in Risk Management and Regulation;
– Vladimir Ladizhansky, Natural Sciences and Engineering, chair in Biophysics;
– Georgia Mason, Natural Sciences and Engineering, chair in Animal Welfare;
– Barry Smit, Social Sciences and Humanities, chair in Global Environmental Change; and
– Carl Svensson, Natural Sciences and Engineering, chair in Gamma-Ray Spectroscopy and Rare Isotope Physics.
“Research at the University of Guelph will be entering new dimensions with the addition of these two new chairs and the renewal of three others,” said Kevin Hall, university vice-president of research said. “Our scientists will be examining unexplored frontiers, positioning Guelph as a leader in providing knowledge and technology in these fields."
