The Canadian Orpheus Male Choir, a well-balanced ensemble of 50 male choristers under the leadership of music director Fred Numan and accompanist Krista Wegner, will entertain at Melville United Church here on Sept. 27.
The program will include a wide variety of musical genres from folk, sacred, and classical songs, show tunes, and popular music. The well-known choir from Burlington has performed over 500 concerts in southern Ontario and on tours in Europe, across Canada, and in the U.S.
A talented soprano will join the choir to entertain in Fergus.
The Fergus concert is in support of the new windows’ fund at Melville and of local and overseas outreach. The congregation is maintaining the historic landmark downtown building while supporting many local needs such as The Door, the local food bank, and the benevolent fund for community emergencies.
Outreach of the church supports projects overseas such as sponsoring education for a needy high school student in Belize (with the SHARE Agriculture Foundation) and two African college students who visited Fergus for Canada World Youth program, as well as meeting many Canadian needs such as the Wesley Centre, a shelter in Hamilton for street people, and a variety of programs around the world with yearly contributions to the Mission and Service Fund of the United Church of Canada.
Tax receipts will be issued for contributions to the above programs and light refreshments served at 9:45pm. The shot starts at 7:30pm.
Elevator access is provided. For information, call 519-843-1781 or 519-843-3274.
