The Grey-Wellington Theatre Guild is offering aspiring actors an opportunity to learn from a master of theatric arts.
The guild will be offering adult acting classes this fall. Participants will have a chance to learn from instructor Patrick C. Smith, the guild’s founder and a veteran of professional and amateur ranks.
Classes will be on Wednesday evenings from Sept. 9 to Oct. 28 at the Harriston Town Hall Theatre.
Smith performed the one-man show An Evening with Mark Twain, as the guild’s inaugural production in 1973. Since then, the guild has produced more than 75 shows, including, during Smith’s lengthy tenure as artistic director, such classics as Educating Rita, The Lion in Winter, and The Odd Couple. After moving to Southampton, Smith, ran a successful dinner theatre company in that area and began working with Owen Sound Little Theatre in 2004.
With Owen Sound Little Theatre, his directing credits include Squabbles and The Music Man, as well as a variety show featuring local talent. He also appeared on stage in Squabbles, Communicating Doors and other shows. He is currently directing a production of My Fair Lady for OSLT.
Since returning to the guild, Smith, has thrown himself into a key role once again, playing Norman Thayer in On Golden Pond, Max in Sound of Music and Fagin in Oliver and directing the comedies Noises Off and Shirley Valentine.
He is also a member of the guild’s board of directors, serves as theatre manager and has volunteers his time as an acting coach to newer performers on recent productions.
Enrollment in the classes will be limited.
