Over four years, five Guelph artists, Scott Abbott, Laura Coutts, Nan Hogg, Leslie Miles, and Janet Ollers, explored the town and country character that defines Wellington County.
Their results are on display at the Wellington County Museum Sept. 13 to Nov. 9. The opening reception is Sept. 12.
Over 60 pieces collectively take viewers on a journey through the county, capturing the towns, villages, and rural communities.
Inspired by their friend, the late Jane Graham, the exhibit evolved from the idea of painting beautiful old buildings that characterize towns and villages to the farms and rural communities. Painting, including oil and acrylic on canvas, each artist explores the diversity that the landscape and streetscapes provide.
“We feel we have not only gained an appreciation for the ‘land and cityscapes’ of the county, but also, for the people that we have encountered. Their curiosity and interest in our work frequently broke down barriers and provided us with a profound learning experience. Capturing Wellington County’s beauty could be a lifetime’s work for an artist,” stated Miles, a member of the group.
Everyone is welcome to the opening reception, which runs 7:30 to 10pm. For more information visit www.wcm.on.ca or phone 519-846-0916.
