The local Lions Heritage Park splash pad officially opened to children of all ages on July 12.
The splash pad, made possible by funding from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF), the Town of Minto and the Palmerston Lions Club, has become a centre piece to the large park project in downtown Palmerston.
Perth-Wellington MPP John Wilkinson, Ontario Trillium Foundation representative Catharine Collins, Minto Mayor Dave Anderson, Lions President Joanne Klonikowski and Lions Park chairman Bob Emmerson were on hand.
Wilkinson said, “Our rural youth will now have an opportunity to enjoy healthy, active outdoor activities at this new splash pad, thanks to the hard work of the Palmerston Lion’s Club.”
A large crowd of children, parents, grandparents and friends were at the Splash Pad to enjoy a free family day hosted by the Lions Club and Minto. A free lunch was cooked by the Lions and the pool was opened for free.
The splash pad fits nicely with the swimming pool and playground that are key elements of the 28-acre park project. More development is planned over the coming years.
The cost of the splash pad is $130,000 and it was funded primarily thanks to a $75,000 Trillium Foundation grant. The remainder was shared by the park project partners Minto and the Palmerston Lions Club.
