FREE, Janice (nee McQueen)

Passed away peacefully on June 9, 2024, at Hospice Wellington at the age of 66, after a brave three-year battle with cancer. Janice was a loving mother to Brad (Natalie), Kailey Belacca (Matthew), and stepmother to Kelly Pederson (Brent) and Doug. She was a cherished grandmother to Alexa, Hallie, Landon, Ella, Grace, Kaitlyn, Ryan, and Sarah. Janice is fondly remembered by her brothers Ronald (Linda) and Murray (Marilyn) McQueen, and by her nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by her companion, Gary Murdock. Janice was predeceased by her late husband Lloyd Free and her parents Hugh and Irene McQueen. Janice’s greatest joy was her grandchildren, but she cherished spending time with all her family and friends. She loved traveling, playing pickleball, and golfing. Janice worked as a Registered Nurse for 40 years, with 35 of those years dedicated to Homewood Health Centre. She will be remembered by all who knew her for her kind heart, infectious laugh, friendly demeanor, boundless energy, and passion for living life to the fullest. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of her life was held Tuesday, June 18th from 6-9pm at Springfield Golf & Country Club (2054 Gordon street, Guelph, ON. N1L 1G6). Arrangements entrusted to Wall-Custance Funeral Home & Chapel (519-822-0051 / www.wallcustance.com). Special thanks to Dr. Brodovsky, nurse Laura, staff and volunteers at Hospice Wellington, for their care and support of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Hospice Wellington would be appreciated. A tree will be planted in memory of Janice V. Free in the Wall-Custance Memorial Forest.
