The Writers’ Festival is accepting submissions for the eighth annual Ishar Singh poetry contest, to be focused on the theme of Wandering and Wondering in the Natural World.
The contest is open to students in elementary, junior and high school.
Five grand prize winners will receive $100 each and five runners-up will receive $50 each from the various grade categories.
Poetry entries must be received by July 31.
The prizes are donated in memory of Ishar Singh. Contest winners will have the opportunity to read at the festival’s children’s site.
For further information or inquiries relating to the contest, see the festival website or contact 519- 822-8236 or sratcliffe@sentex.ca.
The festival is also calling for submissions from writers previously unpublished in book format to read at The Fringe portion of the festival. The deadline for Fringe submissions is also July 31. Email edenmillsfringe@yahoo.ca.
Many Fringe readers go on to become well-known authors. Shari LapeHa is one of several former fringe participants who will return this year as published authors.
LapeHa read at the fringe in 2005 and returns this year as author of the critically acclaimed Things Go Flying.
This year’s festival, celebrating its 20th anniversary, will be held Sept. 7 from noon to 6pm, with more than 40 guest authors in attendance. Accompanying seminars and workshops will take place on Sept. 5 and 6.
