Although he made light of the situation, Morriston resident Hans Juergensen said even an ambulance has been duped by a pair of confusing street names in the hamlet.
Juergensen, who came as a delegation to Puslinch council on July 2, said he proposes changing the name of Ochs Street “just to clarify the confusion” between that road and nearby Ochs Drive.
Because he lives on Badenoch Street (County Road 36), off which run both Ochs Drive and Ochs Street, Juergensen has corrected drivers of all sorts of vehicles, including an ambulance, who were on the wrong road.
He said he would be very grateful if council would consider the change.
Clerk Brenda Law said because no one lives on Ochs Street it likely would not be a big deal to change the name, although the township would have to consult the county first and then inform emergency services and other organizations, which form “quite a contact list.”
Juergensen joked that “Hans Drive” would make a perfect street name, but Law said it would make most sense to rename the road Back Street, of which Ochs Street is really a continuation anyway.
Councillor Matthew Bulmer said he thinks the name change is a great idea, especially considering an ambulance was one of the vehicles that went to the wrong street.
Mayor Brad Whitcombe agreed, saying the thought of an emergency vehicle going to a wrong address is “disturbing.”
He added since no one seemed to have any concerns about the change, the township will begin working on it.
