On July 20, the Ignatius Jesuit Centre here is hosting its first annual Ignatian Fest – a family-centred and ecumenical outdoor celebration.
The event will feature display booths, tours of the grounds, swimming, games, and an end-of-day ecumenical worship.
The Ignatian Connection Exchange and Celebration, (ICEC), a consortium of organizations and groups in the Golden Triangle whose members are grounded in Ignatian spirituality, is organizing the event in order to broaden community awareness about their work.
They invite everyone to bring family and friends to meet ICEC members and learn about the resources they provide on July 20 from 2 to 5pm. The event will be held at the Ignatius Jesuit Centre of Guelph at 5420 Highway 6, about half a kilometre north of Guelph.
Established in 1913, the Ignatius Jesuit Centre of Guelph was originally a novitiate for training young men for the Jesuit Order.
Today, it includes the Orchard Park Office Building, nearby Loyola House Retreat Centre and various ecological and agricultural projects. Those include the Ecology Project and the Community Shared Agriculture Program (CSA).
The CSA fosters community by linking consumers with the land and the farmers that grow the food. The Ecology Project seeks to address issues of ecology from a faith perspective and works with other organizations to address climate change, water, and agricultural issues.
