On Sunday, this town will come alive with a day of music in Victoria Park.
The Fergus 175 event will begin at 2pm, with the Family Concert in the Park.
“This is a great opportunity to pack a picnic lunch and savour the sounds of a host of local musicians,” said Fergus 175 chairman Mary Lloyd.
In the afternoon the Fergus Brass Band, the Fergus Pipe Band, Kara Shaw and, the feature band, Back Roads, take the stage.
As the sun begins to set, an edgier sound will rise with the Street Beats Youth Jam, beginning at 7pm.
“When planning the events for the 175 celebration, it became evident that a very important sector of the community was being over-looked. Casting live youth bands allows the younger generations in Fergus to celebrate the community they live in and have a great time with great music and each other,” said Lloyd.
Headlining the night is a local and rising talent, Mandala. The eclectic reggae band features Lindsay Tegler, Brent Murphy, Elliot Snarr, Izaak Wapachee, Cameron Menzies, Austin Roberts, Jake VanVloten, and Todd Cooper, and was recently chosen the number one youth band tat the Hillside Music Festival in Guelph this summer.
“We’ve never played an event that celebrates where we’re from,” said Menzies.
Unbreakable Clocks, Matt Rappolt, Kyle Butella, Alex Ecclestone, Greg Ecclestone, and Alex Blake, will be another one of the bands featured in the evening. Their music combines a mixture of traditional rock, punk.
One Minute, the youngest of the youth bands to be featured, will also be performing. That band has played at several events and won first place at: Erin Fall Fair 2007, Mount Forest Music Festival 2007, and Toronto Bandfest 2008. The band includes: Allister Derbyshire, Ben Derbyshire, and Mike Gora, and combines guitars, drums, and keyboards.
This music and celebration takes place on June 29 at Victoria Park beginning at 2pm.
