After a long struggle with MS, Peggy, passed away peacefully, at the Elliott Retirement Community in Guelph, in her 70th year. She was the beloved mother of Lauren of Halifax – who was the light of her life – sister to David Brisbin (Jackie) Elora and Marion Glumac, Guelph and many nieces and nephews. Peggy was born on August 11th 1954 to James and Helen Brisbin in Belleville, Ontario. From an early age, Peggy had a deep love for music. She played the piano with grace and passion until multiple sclerosis made it impossible for her to continue. Her love for music never waned. She attended Pickering High School and then the University of Western Ontario, graduating from the Secretarial Science program in 1976. She then worked for Imperial Oil as the personal secretary to 5 Vice Presidents and due to her fluency in French and Spanish, she was the foreign correspondent for the company. Unfortunately, following a diagnosis of MS and subsequent progression, she had to resign from Imperial after working for a number of years. One of Peggy’s greatest joys was spending each summer at the family cottage at 111 Bruce Beach. There, she reveled in the beauty of sunsets over the lake, enjoyed family times, playing tennis and attending the Saturday pipe band until 2012 when multiple sclerosis made it too difficult for her to attend the cottage. Faith played a central role for Peggy. She was a dedicated member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Guelph. She sang in the choir and played bells as long as she was able, contributed to its missions and found comfort within its walls. She was a member of the WMS and was made an honorary member for her years of dedicated service. She always had a bright smile for her church family and her strong faith in the Lord gave her the courage she needed to do the daily battle with her disability. Despite facing debilitating struggles with multiple sclerosis for over 35 years, Peggy continued living with grace and resilience thanks largely due to wonderful care from staff at Elliott Retirement facility who provided comfort and care during challenging times for the last 18 years. Cremation has taken place with internment to be in South Kinloss Cemetery on the 31st of May at 3pm. Memorial donations in Peggy’s name can be made to the MS Society, St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Guelph or Presbyterian Camp Kintail (www.campkintail.ca).
