Piper to perform in downtown

Every Saturday through the summer, alternating members of the Fergus Pipe Band and the Grand Celtic Pipe Band will be filling the Fergus Marketplace area with the sounds of Scotland.

“It is time to make Fergus the Scottish Capital of Canada,” said The Wee-Scottish Shop owner Angie Evans. “The idea came in support of Fergus’ 175th birthday, and the tradition and heritage of the town. We have had amazing support from Elora-Fergus tourism, as well as the local businesses and pipe bands, in making what will be a weekly event come to term.”

This is a year for celebration. Fergus is 175 years old. The Fergus Pipe Band, which will kick off the marketplace music, is not without a history of its own – it was founded in 1927 by men who had served during the First World War.

Everyone is welcome to honour that heritage – Satur-days, 11:30am to 12:30pm.
