I’m here, I’m here! Let the bells ring out and the banners fly. It’s too good to be true, but feast your eyes on me, I’m here!
Finally made the Obituary Page. The family of the late Jean Baker are announcing her recent death at Groves Memorial Hospital in Fergus, Ontario. In 1953 she married Donald Alden Baker and they resided in various locations in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. Donald and Jean welcomed three children: Sherry Friskney (Ian) of Elora, Ontario; Dana Baker (Cindy) of Halifax, Nova Scotia; and Terry Baker (Krista) of Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, all surviving. Her children produced seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Jean has one surviving sister — Elsie May Moser (Bill) of London, Ontario. She was predeceased by one other sister — Una Maud Ross and brother-in-law Jack Ross. Eventually all the children finished University and moved to various points of the compass: Sherry at CIBC in Toronto, Danny with Hallmark in Newfoundland, and Terry with Saskatchewan Roughriders Football. It was time to consider the rest of her life. With time on her hands and a change required and with the help of her sister Una Maud and her brother-in-law Jack (both at the time living in Vancouver), great plans were laid and change was in the air. Bring on the U-Haul, pack life’s treasures in it, and start a long trip from Truro, Nova Scotia to beautiful British Columbia. Do you remember? 1986 was World EXPO Year in Vancouver and certainly provided great excitement for a runaway from Nova Scotia, a change of scenery, and a chance to spread her wings! During the next 33 years, she was working as an executive secretary or managing book stores throughout the Lower Mainland; always working and happy right up to retirement. When the new century arrived, she was able to spend the next 20 years indulging her lifelong interests with books and more books, bridge endless bridge, gardening – flowers galore, and collecting frogs! Because of failing health and being unable to live on her own, she moved back across the country in 2017 to live out her life with her daughter Sherry and son-in-law Ian in Elora, Ontario. From one end of the country to the other and back again! No funeral by request, family memorial only. Cremation planned. Jean was always passionate about flowers but would rather have your remembrances go to a local S.P.C.A., or the Canadian Diabetes Association, two organizations close to her heart.
