The art of Supria Karmakar will be exhibited in the lobby of Groves Hospital till the end of August.
Karmakar is an encaustic mixed media collage artist living in Fergus. Encaustic is an ancient art, going back to the time of the Egyptians, in which colours are melted into wax and applied to canvas or wood in successive layers.
Karmakar has enjoyed a long career in community development and has a life-long passion and commitment to living a creative life. She also loves to pass it on to others through one-day courses in the encaustic medium designed for small groups at her studio on St. Andrews Street East.
This exhibition is presented by the Elora Arts Council. Karmakar will donate 10% of all art sales from the exhibit to Groves.
A new initiative of Art in Public Places is a rotating exhibition in the boardroom of the Sportsplex in Fergus. Three artists’ works are now on show until the end of August: a triptych of dance figures by Riki Weiland, two floral still lifes by Eileen Pedersen, and five water colours of recent travel sites by Mary Helps.
