Raceway stable tour runs on June 7

Grand River Raceway has announced its partnership with Dreamridge Tack Shop in the first ever Fergus-Elora Stable Tour.

The self-guided tour will take place on June 7 between 11am to 3pm. Eleven local horse venues are currently slated for the tour, covering several disciplines and breeds, including Standardbred and harness racing. The event marks the end of National Horse Week and will support the Guelph-Wellington Women in Crisis Rural Women’s Support Program. Grand River Raceway’s stop on the tour will offer hands-on instruction, including the opportunity for participants to drive a racehorse. The initiative is made possible with the assistance of the Ontario Harness Horse Association, including their horses, staff and resources from the Ontario Harness Racing Youth Camp. Other industry associations, including the Ontario Standardbred Adoption Society will also be on-hand throughout the day.

The tour begins at Dreamridge Tack Shop on Garafraxa Street East in Fergus. Tour participants can pick up tour maps at Dreamridge between 9am and 5pm on June 7. A suggested $10 donation is requested to benefit the Guelph-Wellington Women in Crisis Rural Women’s support program. Stables will be open for touring between 11am and 3pm.

National Horse Week is coordinated by Equine Canada.

The Guelph-Wellington Women in Crisis Rural Women’s support program offers counseling and support including emergency shelter and a 24 hour crisis line. For more details, contact Dreamridge at 519-787-1176 or visit www.dreamridgetack.ca or www.grandriverraceway.com.
