Council here has again supported the Mapleton Historical Society, this year with a donation of $2,000.
There was little discussion on May 13 in response to a request from the society’s secretary, Lori Flewwelling, who provided a summary of the group’s activities over the past year.
“We had a well received display at the farm show, a very successful annual meeting … a genealogy 101 course, identified the cemeteries in Mapleton Township and at present have 14 family and 13 individual members,” Flewwelling told council in a letter.
The society has also joined the Ontario Historical Society and has started to record and photograph old barns and churches in the township, she added.
Council unanimously approved the donation of $2,000 – which makes up a large portion of the society’s $5,750 budget for 2008-09.
