The second production of the 2008 season at the Drayton Festival Theatre is a presentation of the critically acclaimed play, The Drawer Boy.
The play is set in a rural Canadian farming community and it will run for three weeks, starting June 10.
“The Drawer Boy is an extremely engaging, compelling play that is balanced with great comedic moments. It is a wonderful addition to the 2008 Season,” said Drayton Entertainment artistic director Alex Mustakas.
Miles is a young, aspiring actor and writer in search of some hands-on experience for a play he is creating about farm life in rural Ontario. With great reluctance, Angus and Morgan, two middle-aged, bachelor farmers, agree to let the city slicker stay with them.
What begins as an amusing portrayal of rural and urban culture-clash, slowly peels away layers to expose hidden secrets when Miles unwillingly stumbles upon a shocking truth about their past. Thus begins a journey of self-discovery filled with humour and tenderness that explores the true meaning of friendship.
“The Drawer Boy leaves theatregoers with a truly uplifting message that celebrates both Canadian theatre and the triumph of the human spirit,” said Mustakas.
Director Adam Furfaro leads the production with an impressive list of past Drayton Entertainment credits, including Funny Money (2007), Corpse (2006), The Buddy Holly Story (2003 and 2006), Lost In Yonkers (2005), and The Cemetery Club (2004).
The Drawer Boy stars Robert King as Angus, Rob McClure as Morgan, and Zachary Stevenson as Miles.
The Drawer Boy won the Governor General’s Award and Chalmers Award, and is one of the most widely lauded plays in contemporary theatre.
