Lacrosse memorabilia on display in Arthur

ARTHUR – A new exhibit has arrived at the Arthur and Area Community Centre showcasing the community’s past. “This project, it will forever be a fine example of what we can do when we all work together,” Arthur and Area Historical Society member Jeff McKee said at an opening ceremony on April 27. John Benham donated his time in designing and building the cabinets for the rotating exhibits. Lacrosse memorabilia is currently on display, but McKee said the next ones could be themed for the upcoming fall fair, or the 150th anniversary of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church.

“This is one little part of my dream for [the Arthur Historical Society] where we start to take the things to the people, instead of just always having them in our little space and hoping the people will come,” McKee said. He thanked the sponsors of the display, including Wellington North Township, and many local businesses. Mayor Andy Lennox said it’s important newcomers to the community understand the past. “So that they understand when they’re coming and joining our community, and being welcomed into it, that they can contribute to the future,” Lennox said.

Historical society member Jeff McKee, Mayor Andy Lennox and cabinet maker John Benham cut the ribbon to officially unveil the new historical display at the Arthur arena.
