Council approves $265,000 for road work

Council has approved over $265,000 for two tenders for annual road maintenance and dust suppression.

On May 13, Public Works Director Larry Lynch presented two reports to council outlining the expenditures.

Only one tender was received for gravel out of five companies contacted by Lynch before the offer closed.

The Murray Group Limited, of Moorefield, submitted a bid worth $177,300, including the supply of 18,000 tonnes of awarded to Miller Paving Ltd., of Markham, at a price of $275 per tonne for a total of $90,934.

There was one lower bid received by the township – from Cliff Holland Trucking, of Clinton, for $80,117 – but Lynch said the tender was not filled out properly. He explained that the company provided quotes for a different type of material than it had   intended to supply.

“I would suggest if you can’t fill out the tender form properly, that’s his fault,” Lynch said after councillor Mike Downey questioned spending almost $11,000 more than was necessary.

In a recorded vote requested by Downey, council approved the tender by a 4-1 decision, with just Downey opposed.
