Myth-busting food labels a step towards wellness

GUELPH – Attendants of the Stone United Church’s Spring Wellness Series on April 20 dissected the myths and misconceptions surrounding grocery-store food labels.

Courtney Gioia, an ACE certified fitness instructor and body image and mindful eating coach, joined the series via Zoom with her presentation designed to be easily consumed by attendees.

Heavy with government-regulated information, Gioia explained that food labels can carry mixed-messaging concerning nutrition.

The presentation deciphered helpful versus unhelpful information on said labels, placing an emphasis on joyful movement, intuitive eating and challenging diet-culture thinking.

Spring is a great time to start fresh and focus on adopting body-positive behaviours; understanding food labels during a grocery  store visit can be a step in that direction.
