The 23rd annual Fergus Truck Show is planned to be a variation from previous years.
This year, the truck and tractor pulling will be condensed, and a demolition derby will be added to the Sunday venue.
This year’s entertainment is going includes eight well known Canadian classic rock and country acts, as well as nine local bands. Friday night entertainment includes April Wine, Kim Mitchell, and David Wilcox. On Saturday afternoon the Dixie Flyers add some bluegrass music, and Jessie Farrell a newcomer in Canadian country music will perform.
On Saturday night Castrol Lubricants presents Canadian Juno nominated Gord Bamford whose latest single Stayed til two and 2007 Canadian Country Music award winner Aaron Pritchett who won for his single Hold My Beer.
On Sunday, Alex J. Robinson (who recently appeared on the Ontario Tourism television commercials) opens for Aaron Lines.
The truck and tractor pulls will be another awesome event. This year the American and Canadian rivalry heats up again as over 200 pullers from Canada and the U.S. will compete for over $75,000 in 25 different classes. The pulls are sanctioned events by Empire State Pullers and the Great Lakes Truck & Tractor Pullers Association.
This year the second track, which was added in 2007, will provide non stop pulling Friday and Saturday evenings. Grandstand seating will be available to fans to experience the thrill and thousands of horsepower this year’s pulls have to offer.
Sunday afternoon brings a new venue to the show when Thrill Show Productions runs its sanctioned demolition derby. There will be five different classes with many qualifying heats to determine the winners
The Show & Shine competition for the big rigs features thousands of dollars worth of chrome, accessories, and paint on over 500 trucks that are expected to attend. Be prepared for amazing art design, murals and light show.
An estimated $150-million worth of equipment will be displayed on the Show and Shine fields.
Over 225 trade show exhibitors will be displaying the latest equipment, technology, and accessories throughout the weekend.
The Fergus Truck Show is a not-for-profit corporation that started in 1986 as a one-time event to raise funds for an addition to the local community centre, and to introduce area residents to the trucking industry.
The show is held at Centre Wellington Sportsplex and stands behind community well-being by distributing profits to the local groups that assist with the show, including service groups, Sports teams, local churches and mission groups. To date, over $599,000 has been raised for those volunteers.
Over 75,000 visitors are expected in 2008, from all over North America, if not the world.
The show takes place July 24 to 27.
