FERGUS – The Grand Quilt Guild is hosting its 4th show, “Quilts on the Grand – 2024” this June 7 and 8 at the Centre Wellington Sportsplex.
About 250 quilts will be featured, including large bed size quilts, lap quilts, wall-hangings, miniature quilts, flimsies (only the tops), clothing and accessories.
Each piece will include a story by the artist.
Admission is $10.
The show will include:
– a tribute to members who have passed since the last show in 2018;
– a display of some “Comfort Quilts” – quilts made by the membership and given to a member who has lost a loved one;
– “Outreach Quilts” – quilts made by membership and given to palliative care units in Groves Memorial Community Hospital and Guelph General Hospital to comfort patients at end of life and then left for their families;
– five vendors selling quilting related supplies; and
– a snack area with sandwiches, muffins, drinks etc.
New this year is a separate day (June 6) for residents of local long-term care, retirement, nursing, and group homes to come with their support workers to view the quilts at no cost, in a more relaxed atmosphere – free to roam around with canes, wheelchairs, walkers etc.
The guild received $3,000 from the Centre Wellington Community Impact Grant towards costs of the June 6 event.
