Councillor Ross Chaulk has no issue with a new waterworks building in Arthur – providing the West Luther works yard is not sacrificed in the process.
On Monday night, the Wellington North water and sewer committee provided a general deadline of work required to develop a site next to the Arthur sewage disposal plant on Preston Street.
Currently there is $300,000 in the roads, water and sewer reserves.
The project involves:
– tearing down the existing old house on site;
– meeting with the Preston Street developer and finalize site grading for the combined works yard and water and sewer building;
– submitting Ministry of Environment applications to allow a snow dump and works buildings, and obtaining appropriate approvals from the GRCA;
– hiring of a tree contractor to move on site trees to provide a buffer zone; and,
– preparing a rough building site using township staff, equipment, and materials.
Chaulk, the township’s finance committee chairman, has no complaints with a new works yard in Arthur – “unless it involves shutting down the West Luther yard. It is the best building.”
Councillor Dan Yake said the idea of shutting down the West Luther yard was never even considered.
“It was not part of any discussion,” Yake said.
In a report to council Works Superintendent Gary Williamson suggested the building could be completed within the current term of council.
