The Minto Arts Council and the Grey Wellington Theatre Guild present Basement Café Reunion on May 10, at 8pm, at the Harriston Town Hall Theatre.
The event has been planned to celebrate the success of the Basement Café concert series first conceived in 1999 by local musician Paul Haslem, as a concert to raise funds for the then Harriston Arts council. The basement of the Harriston library was chosen as the location, since it had an atmosphere reminiscent of the coffee house venues of the 1960s and ’70s.
From the success of that show and the response has grown a tradition of presenting top Canadian musicians.
The event is held three times yearly, and last year, when discussing ways to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Minto Arts Council (a June Callwood volunteerism award winner in 2007), the idea was to bring together acts from the past people were asking to see again.
Six musicians will perform, trading licks, harmonies and plenty of stories. They are: Wendell Ferguson, Katherine Wheatley, James Gordon; Richard Knechtel, Bob MacLean, and Juanita Wilkins.
Tickets are $20 are available various area businesses and Visa sales available through Grey Wellington Theatre Guild Ticket Outlet at 519-338-2779 (daily until 9pm). Group discounts are available.
