Sunrise Therapeutic Riding and Learning Centre recently received a $49,400 grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF).
The money helped complete a new roof on Marguerite’s Discovery Centre and the Community meeting room, build new fences for the horse paddocks and purchase a public address system.
Wellington-Halton Hills MPP Ted Arnott joined OTF representative Catharine Collins in congratulating the organization.
“The staff and volunteers of Sunrise deserve our thanks and congratulations,” said Arnott. “Their programming is unique and innovative, and the results are nothing short of miraculous for their young clients. This OTF funding could not be better placed.”
Parents and family members watch each session in the indoor riding arena from a viewing room. Until now they could not hear what was being said. But the PA equipment, made possible through the grant, means they can hear everything, as well as music, which riders really enjoy.
In addition, the instructors have a head set that enables their voices to be heard clearly, especially when rain is pounding on the metal roof. A resource and quiet room will also benefit from music.
Sunrise was founded in 1982. In 1996, the registered charity moved to the current farm in Puslinch Township. Hundreds of children and adults with a wide range of disabilities have benefitted from therapeutic and recreation programs using horses.
The Ontario Trillium Foundation is an agency of the government of Ontario. For over 25 years, the foundation has supported communities across the province.
