$2.2-million in bridge tenders

Four bridges in Guelph-Eramosa Township will be replaced this year, at a total cost of about $2.2-million.

On April 21 council awarded the tenders for several bridges here

The bridge replacements  will be funded in part by the $2.43-million the township received from three COMRIF  grants for the replacement of six bridges, two of which were completed last year.

As Public Works Manager Ken Gagnon told council, the Canada Ontario Municipal Rural Infrastructure Fund grant  money has to be spent by March 31 of next year or the township risks losing it.

So Gagnon invited tenders in April, and those were approved by council last week, including:

– $887,428 to Marbridge Construction, of Mississauga, for bridges 10 and 11 (there were six other tenders for the work, ranging from $975,121 to $1.26-million);

– $700,000 to Drexler Construction, of Rockwood, for bridge 20 (there were six other tenders for this work, ranging from $701,491 to $951,004); and

– $610,000 to Drexler Construction for bridge 22 (six other tenders ranging from $$642,797 to $738,430).
