Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Helen Annette Kurtz (Bruder) on Friday, April 5th, 2024 at Riverside Glen, Guelph in her 94th year. Helen was the loving wife of the late Jim Kurtz, Sr (d. 2007) after 56 years of marriage. She was the loving mother of Judy (Bruce) McKague, Jim Jr (Pat) Kurtz, Gary (d. 2019) (Shirley) Kurtz, Gerry (d.2014) (Barb) Kurtz and Keith (Cathie) Kurtz. She is also survived by her 11 loving grandchildren Jennifer, Cathleen, Bryce, Veronika, Marisa, Greg, Ian, Kyle, Andrew, Becky and Brittney. She is also survived by 21 great – grandchildren and one great great – grandson. Her family was her everything. Also survived by her sister-in-law, Ruth Kurtz. She was the last surviving and youngest member of the Charles and Ida Bruder family of 10 children. She lived her life to serve and nurture her family. She was a life member of the St Boniface Catholic Church and CWL. She was generous with her love and her time. She lived on the same road her entire life in Ariss until moving into Heritage River Retirement Home in Elora in 2020. She loved dancing, quilting, bowling, playing euchre, playing crokinole (she was the pro in this family and was unbeatable and had very strong fingers). She was a hard worker all her life and was always punctual and honesty was her main request from everyone she knew. One of her main joys was watching her grandchildren doing the Chicken Dance at the previous Black Forest Inn on special occasions. Her most favourite colour was Purple. She will be greatly missed by her nieces, nephews, family, friends and neighbours. Visitation will take place on Friday, April 12th from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at the Gilbert McIntyre & Son Funeral Home, Dublin Chapel, 252 Dublin St N., Guelph, Ontario. A  Funeral Mass will be held at St Boniface Catholic Church in Maryhill on Saturday at 11am. Interment to follow at St Boniface Cemetery. A time for friendship with the family will follow at Ariss Valley Golf Course for refreshments and memories. Donations if you choose can be made to: The Canadian Cancer Society, St. Boniface Catholic Church, Maryhill or a charity of your choice. The family would like to express our thanks for the care and attentiveness shown to Mom during her stays at Heritage River Retirement Home in Elora and Riverside Glen Long Term Care in Guelph and to Groves Memorial Hospital, Fergus. Your kindness was so much appreciated.
